“Often, without the dull and determined effort there can be no
brilliant achievement.”
A portrait of a nesting loon. Even the most exciting tasks involve some
boring or laborious effort. No matter how much we love our work there is
usually some aspect of it that we would rather not have to do.
Some of us can arrange for someone else to do the dull stuff.
Sometimes we've just got to deal with it ourselves. We have to do the
things we don't enjoy just so that we can have the things we do enjoy.
The male and female common loon take turns keeping their eggs warm while
waiting for them to hatch. About twelve hours each a day.
Sitting in one spot for twelve hours has got to be a challenge.
Especially for any creature that can fly.
